Moss, born February 13, 1977, is an ex-American footballer. He played with the
Minnesota Vikings (Oak Raiders), New England Patriots (New England Patriots),
Tennessee Titans (Tennessee Titans), and the San Francisco 49ers in the
National Football League. Together with Jerry Rice, he is generally regarded as
the most outstanding wide receiver to ever play. Moss holds the NFL single year
touchdown record (23 in 2007) and the rookie NFL single season touchdown
reception record (17 in 1998). He is second on the NFL all-time regular season
touchdown list with 156. Moss was famous for his skills in securing contestable
catches, and the term "mossed" is now part of football's language.
Following his professional football career Moss began his career as a studio
analyst for ESPN for the Sunday NFL Countdown program and Monday Night
Countdown. Moss was born in Rand, West Virginia. Moss was a student at DuPont
High School. This was one of the two schools later merged to create Riverside
High School. He was a star in basketball, football and baseball. Randy was also
a member of the school's debate team. On the field of football, Moss led the
DuPont Panthers to state championships in back-to-back years in 1993 and 1992.
He was an excellent wide receiver however, he also played free safety returning
punts and kickoffs, as well as was the team's punter and kicker. He was awarded
the Kennedy Award for West Virginia Football Player of the Year in 1994. Parade
magazine named him to their annual All-American high school football team in
1995. in 2009 named him among the 50 best footballers from high schools of all
time.
